Landscape design & build — Northeast Ohio

We build ground
that grows into
something.

Gardens, terraces and outdoor rooms drawn for the way a place actually gets used — then built by the same people who drew them.

The studio

A landscape should look like it was always there — and be honest about the winters here.

Ironwood is a small design-build studio working across Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties. We take on a limited number of projects each season so the person who designs your garden is on site while it's built.

Our plantings lean native and structural: things that hold their shape through a Cleveland February and fill in properly by June. We'd rather specify fewer species and let them mature than plant a catalogue that needs replacing in three years.

Stone, steel, gravel and timber — chosen because they weather well, not because they photograph well on day one.

How we work

Four seasons, four steps.

01

Walk the site

We spend an hour outside with you before anything is drawn — light, drainage, what you actually do out there.

02

Draw it properly

Plan, planting schedule and a real number. You see the whole thing before a shovel moves.

03

Build it ourselves

Our crew, not a subcontractor lottery. The designer is on site through the build.

04

Stay through year one

Seasonal visits for the first year while things establish — pruning, adjusting, replacing anything that sulks.
